In October of 2007 we
will introduce the SCRIP program to the
St. Joseph
parish. SCRIP is a term that means “substitute money”.
Our scrip program offers gift cards and certificates to many
local and national retailers. The
retailer agrees to sell the gift cards and certificates at a discounted
rate to
St. Joseph
.
St. Joseph
in turns sells the certificate and cards to the parishioners at face
value. Parishioners can use
SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other
essentials.
Here is a simple example: Lovejoy’s
offers a 7% discount.
St. Joseph
buys a $100 Lovejoy’s gift card for $93.
($100 less 7%) then sells it to the parishioner for $100.
The parishioner pays $100 for a $100 gift card.
The $7 difference between what
St. Joseph
brought the card for and what the parishioner paid for the card will be
the amount earned and donated back to the parish.
The goals of the program to donate back to the
parish without having to spend a extra dime.
A typical family can easily earn $564 for the church, simply just
choosing to purchase SCRIP. If
a family of four, on the average spend the following, each month:
Groceries
$400/month
Gasoline
$200/month
Clothing
$100/month
Restaurants
$200/month
You can see by the above example how easy it
is to earn. These are just
the everyday places imagine if you are remodeling your home and use the
Home Depot or Lowe's scrip! There are over 50 different vendors with
discount rates ranging from 3% to 19% in the program.
How it works, place your
order on Sunday. Make
sure that you write a check to St. Joseph for the total amount of the
order. Orders placed by
Sunday will be available for pickup the following Sunday.
Orders will be available for pickup between the
9:30 – 10:30 am
on Sunday at the
PAC.
If you are unable to
pick it up during that time, please call the office to make arrangements
for pickup.
PLEASE consider participating in the program.
This is such an easy and painless way for us to help the parish
with no real out of pocket expense.
At least consider purchasing a gas card or even SCRIP for gifts.
